Gulf of Mexico - Unleashed

Published by dasein06 at 7:00 am under Uncategorized Edit This

I respect the sea and Mother Nature.  I also have a little nervousness about the sea and her nature.  I have traveled on the Gulf of Mexico and she can be calm, cool, mesmerizing and wild like a rabid animal.  One never knows about her severe reactions.

I have canoed to several of the islands near Pinellas and Pasco County.  It’s lovely when you start out and in an instant can turn dark and ugly.  One must be prepared at all times and make responsible decisions.  I have been caught in her grip by raging thunderstorms that made my life flash before my eyes.  I have fought against the swells that crashed over my small craft all within the sight of land.  It’s a daunting helpless experience.

Common sense and the sea should swim hand and hand with a life vest.  I complain to my self at the muster life boat drills when aboard a cruise ship.  These are for my safety.

Off the coast of St. Petersburg in the Gulf of Mexico three men are still missing.  The Coast Guard has called off the search for the men.  Nick Schuyler the fourth man was found clinging to the overturned 21 foot craft.  I suspect the chance for finding the three men alive is very slim.

The Gulf of Mexico is a beautiful body of water that looks calm and tranquil.  A tropical oasis.  Looks can be deceiving.  Winds can reach 40 miles per hour with 10 foot waves with frigid water temperatures and this is not hurricane weather.  Mother Nature is fearsome and needs to be respected.
